Made of outdoor-approved ceramic, our river rocks are specially designed to retain heat and disperse the gas throughout your fire feature. This helps create a fuller and more realistic flame! Our rocks maintain that natural, realistic look of real river stones, but are safer to use as fire media. Actual river rocks have microscopic flaws in them, and frequently crack or even explode when exposed to heat. Protect yourself and your outdoor feature with our ceramic river rocks and enjoy the beauty of nature in your fire pit!

  • 1 box has 25 pieces of assorted light weight ceramic stones.
    • 2 boxes can easily cover the burners on a 48" linear electric fireplace or a 36" direct vent gas fireplace!
  • Our River Rocks and Luxury Mixed Fire Stones are an assortment of sizes, ranging from 1 to 5 inches in diameter.
  • Please be sure to measure your burner area before adding river rock or luxury stones to it. In some cases, an entire set of these rocks (1 box = 25 pieces) may be too big for certain fire features. In other cases, you may need to obtain an additional box to cover your burner. If you're not sure, please call us at 1-888-986-1535 for assistance!
  • When trying to recreate that "river rock look" in your fire feature, please play it safe and get our tempered, outdoor-rated, fire-approved media. Fireside Expressions' heat treated products are designed to withstand the extreme temperatures of a fire. Rocks and stones that have been collected from a riverbed or the great outdoors will crack and explode when subject to high heat, causing damage to person and property.
  • Because propane is heavier than natural gas, it will sink to the bottom of your feature. Small pieces of fire glass will not allow propane to circulate, and this can lead to the explosion of this particular media. Even with larger fire glass pieces, there is still not enough room for the gas to dissipate from wind and other factors. Lava rock and our ceramic river rocks allow propane to dissipate and is the safest choice for your gas feature. (In addition, it is always a good idea to incorporate lava rock into the bottom portion of natural gas burning features. This helps with gas dispersion and allows you an affordable way to fill your fire pit or bowl.)

As always, our team of experts is available at 1-888-986-1535 to help answer your questions!

We recommend covering the burner with a layer of cinders/lava rock. These should be 1" diameter or larger. Glass should then be used as a topping over cinders/lava rock to approximately 2” in depth. This helps save material, money, and allows for safer operation.
