Unfinished DIY Fire Pit Enclosures

Attention all you DIYers! Fireside Expressions has a product to make building a fire pit in your backyard even less complicated than you imagined! Bringing the comforts of your living space to the outdoors can be fun, and we have simplified that project even more with this totally customizable unfinished fire pit enclosure!

Every structure is only as strong as its foundation. That being said, we are proud to offer you this housing unit made from durable, weather resistant glass fiber reinforced concrete, guaranteed to withstand the test of time! Fire pits are an essential source of warmth and ambiance, and they should be as strong as they are beautiful.

Start with one of these unfinished enclosures by Fireside Expressions:

  • Assortment of shapes to correspond with your design (full size or tapered - square, rectangular, circular, and octagon).
  • Variety of enclosure sizes with appropriate burner dimensions.
  • Natural gas or propane fueled.
  • Compatible with outdoor rated media - fire glass, lava rock, and gas fire pit logs! We can help you calculate how much glass or rock you will need!

PLEASE NOTE: Fire glass can be used with natural gas burning features ONLY. Fireside Expressions is adamant about this for the safety of our valued customers.

  • Because propane is heavier than natural gas, it will sink to the bottom of your feature. Small pieces of fire glass will not allow propane to circulate, and this could can lead to explosion of this particular media. Even with larger fire glass pieces, there is still not enough room for the gas to dissipate from wind and other factors. Lava rock allows propane to dissipate and is the safest choice for propane features. (In addition, it is always a good idea to incorporate lava rock into the bottom portion of natural gas burning features.)

Due to the sheer weight and size of these housing units, we do recommend you have some extra help to maneuver your fire pit foundation to the appropriate location in your landscape. Seek out your local certified gas professional to install gas components so you can safely enjoy your feature once it has been finished with the materials of your choice!

We recommend covering the burner with a layer of cinders/lava rock. These should be 1" diameter or larger. Glass should then be used as a topping over cinders/lava rock to approximately 2” in depth. This helps save material, money, and allows for safer operation.
